JACL 2008 National Convention Optional Tours and Excursions

Gather your friends and truly experience the Salt Lake Valley from all angles. Optional tours will depart for locations throughout the area and will give you the opportunity to see a small slice of this area's natural wonders. Prices are per person and tour length is approximate. Payment is made on-site and all tours depart from the Marriott Hotel.

If you've only got four hours, make the most of it by seeing what Utah is famous for. Take a short trip to the most popular downtown destinations in Utah. You can even end with the option to be dropped off at Gateway shopping center, a short TRAX ride from the convention site. This tour visits the following places:

A whole day free means the chance to join our SLC Highlights + Park City Outlet Shopping Experience. Tour the incredible sights of Salt Lake City and the historic downtown of Park City. These two focal points for the 2002 Winter Olympics will delight and impress. End the trip at the outlet malls nestled in the mountains. No Meal is included.

Departs Sunday, July 20 - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Begin with a tour of Utah Olympic Park, home of 2002 Winter Olympic venues for bobsled, long jump, luge, and skeleton events. Take the afternoon in visiting Historic Park City, with a main street lined with shops, restaurants, art galleries, and much more.

Stunning natural wonders, both above and below ground, will give you a sense of the geologic history of the area. Begin with a visit to Great Salt Lake. You will continue along the beautiful Oquirrh Mountains to Kennecott Copppermine, the worlds largest open pit coppermine, so big it can be seen from space!

Nestled just across the border, take your chances in Wendover! With tons of incentives, these fully escorted gaming trips are sure to be entertaining. Topaz Visit

Visit the Topaz Japanese-American Relocation Center. Topaz internment camp opened on September 11, 1942 and is located in Millard County, Utah, 140 miles south of Salt Lake City. In 1976 the Japanese-American Citizen League erected a monument near the site of the camp.

Lunch will be provided for those participating in this "pilgrimage." Transportation will be by private vehicles. For details contact Rick Okabe at 801-364-5802. Your cost will be your carpooling costs.
